The project is located in the last remains of the natural area called "Le Risorgive". This area is characterized by the presence of water table surfacing through permeable soils overlapped to impervious layers.
The water comes mainly by Alps and pre-Alps and is enriched with calcium and magnesium during the underground journey to the sea because it passes through the limestone and dolomite post-glacial layers of highlands.
The Risorgive habitats - that host vegetable communities distinctly calciphilus and oligotrophic – are strongly affected by characteristics of the groundwater and of the gravelly-pebbly substrate.
In areas where the water table continuously surfaces we found the cladietum, which can settle itself directly on sandy or pebbly gravels, but that usually live on thick peat layers.
In areas subjected to water table flooding for several months per year - but with the possibility of dry periods in the case of drought - we find the Schoenus alkaline fen - on peat layers of 30-60 cm - characteristic for the presence of many endemic species.
In the areas where soils are generally not flooded but often saturated with limestone water, we find the Molinia wet meadows  - on peat land but also on clay bumps that separate the various resurgence areas.
The woods are a fairly recent habitats for resurgences, they are the result of buried bogs and wet meadows abandonment. In areas more humid and temporarily flooded woods are composed of black alders and white willows, while on dry lands by ashes, elms and oaks.
In the past, bogs were separated by more dry lands which were everywhere ploughed up. However some examples of dry meadow - always very calcareuos – remain but they strongly dry up during the summer.
