LIFE FRIULI FENS

Preparatory actions

Before starting project activities, two preliminary steps are necessary:

The enlargment of the two Sites of Community Importance, IT3320028 “Palude Selvote” and IT3320031 “Paludi di Gonars”,respectively of 12 and 35 hectares, as well as of the “Paludi del Corno” natural regional biotope, of about 20 hectares.

The drawing up of a specific management plan for the three sites involved in the LIFE projects, so as to achieve the best conservation of the naturalistic values of the area.

Before the real beginning of the field works, it has been necessary to draw technical plans for each restoring single project.

Results

The process of SCIs expansion was included in the Natura 2000 database review for the whole region and this revision was approved by the Regional Council on July 21, 2006 with the Resolution No.1723. At the same date the Ministry for the Environment Land and Sea sent all national changes to the European Commission.

The biotope expansion was completed on 23 May 2007 with the publication of the Presidential Decree No.0146/Pres into the Friuli Venezia Giulia Official Bullettin.

The management plans of the three SCI are completing the administrative iter for their adoption/approval.

Before starting the environment restoration activities, a preliminary but complex phase has been necessary: determination of the exact ownerships, land acquisitions, survey and restoration design, permits acquisition and contractors selection.

To facilitate these actions, especially the areas acquisition, the operations have been functionally divided into several restoration projects and non-recurring management actions.

The Regional Service has prepared seven different working plans.
