Recurring management The project also includes recurring management works for the preservation and the improvement of natural habitats already purchased by Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. These works are needed - above all - to slow down the water table lowering. In the Molinia wet meadows there will be a mowing per year. In the alkaline fens, mowing is scheduled every 2-3 years, even to guarantee the presence of high grass areas for the nest-building of Montagu's harrier. Mowing is carried out, where possible, using tractors, strimmers or mowers; cut materials are removed with winch drawn sheets. In the ex-arable areas, where environmental restorations have been recently carried out, the project includes, at least, a mowing per year in addition to other actions needed to remove weedy species and to favor sown or transplanted species. In the woods there will be clearings, transformations of coppices into high forest and alloctonous species sucker removal. The area involved bythese works is 84 hectares wide. Results The recurring management was carried out on a total area of about 108 hectares, in rotation on all the habitats already subject to a first improvement or from previous restoring actions. A double mowing has been done on all considered areas. Works are more frequent in the restored areas to help the natural dynamics of vegetation recovery.
