Salmo marmoratus Marble trout 92/43/EEC Directive ann. II It is an endemic species of the Po region, of large size (usually up to 1 m to about 10 pounds, but larger sizes are found), characteristic of the resurgences waterways with fresh and clean medium stream and well-oxygenated waters, with pebbly substrate in which lay their eggs. The livery has a typical and unmistakable marbled light greenish-gray background, which varies in intensity and color. The main danger is the massive and repeated entries of the trout farm, which pollute the gene pool, compete for food and spread diseases. The species is also threatened by the changes of river beds, resulting in the destruction of sites suitable for spawning.
